Thorny Games won awards for Dialect a game communication and language. Their latest game Xenolanguage takes that up a notch and Kickstarter is in love with the original concept.
Xenolanguage: A Game about First Contact asked for $10,000 to fund and within a day or so had banked over $40,000. You can pledge or see the latest totals over at the Kickstarter page.
There’s a rollcall of impressive talent providing their support and recommendations for Xenolanguage on this Kickstarter, names that it’s hard to disagree with.
The game is a no-prep, GM-less experience that seems to fit somewhere been tabletop game and roleplaying experience.
Watch the video, if you’re curious, as it’s hard to describe the game. Even now I’m not sure entirely how the channelling board works (although I get the feeling Thorny Games are avoiding the name Ouija deliberately). If you have the time, then this two-hour-plus video playthrough reveals more.
The base edition of the game comes with custom soundscapes and a module for Tabletop Simulator. In other words; you can play this with friends over the internet during pandemic restrictions. That takes a pledge of $55 (about £43) to unlock.
$85 is needed for the full experience, which adds the 200+ page hardcover Games to Bind Us anthology.
Backers can go higher, $120 for the Alien Art edition or even $250 for a “Glorius Mystery Box”.
