Created by Sofia Alexander, Onyx Equinox joins Crunchyroll’s growing ranks of Originals and will air on November 21st.
The latest trailer shows a slightly more adult story than expected as Izel Yaotl, a jaguar-like emissary of Tezcatlipoca, the mighty warrior Zyanya, the twins Yun and K’in, and the priestess Xanastaku try and save humanity.
Alexander told anime press;
Viewers of ‘Onyx Equinox’ can expect an adult story, both in terms of on-screen action and the themes we tackle throughout the series. We’re going to journey with Izel as he is forced to save a world he doesn’t believe he has a place in, coming face to face with both the darkness in the world and within himself.”
In the series, the gods are at war, and the Aztec boy Izel lands the unfortunate honour of being in the very heart of the dangerous conflict. Somehow, he must close five gates to save everyone and correct a tragedy.
