Matthew Sprange, the managing director of Mongoose Publishing, has shared the company’s State of Mongoose 2020.
As you can imagine, it’s been a tough year, and Brexit worries are still to hit, but Mongoose did okay. Nearly every book promised for 2020 has been delivered.
The company has plans for Traveller in 2021, including Traveller Video Games, 2300AD, Sea of Thieves and Paranoia.
Mercenary
One of two big projects for Traveller, Mercenary will be a Kickstarter for a boxed set.
If successful, the Mercenary Kickstarter will deliver rules that let Traveller players pool their mustering out benefits to fund their own mercenary company. Once formed, the company seeks out contracts and tickets from the broader universe to pay the bills.
Mongoose notes that groups already in a campaign, if rich enough, can also fund their own mercenary company and give the example of Pirates of Drinax branching out as mercenaries.
Fifth Frontier War
The Fifth Frontier War will become its own sub-line within Traveller, and Mongoose estimate the campaign will take between 2 to 3 years to complete.
Players will get to see the instigation of the war, from both sides and will be working with original Traveller designer Marc Miller to bring his version of the conflict to the RPG tabletop.
New Traveller content for Fantasy Grounds is also expected very soon.
Other Projects
Sprange also announced that Charted Space Volume 3, ore sector books (confirmed for the Solomani Front and Spinward Extents), the first “empire” book in the shape of The Third Imperium are all planned for 2021.
Seth Skorkowsky is working on an adventure which reimagines Murder on Arcturus Station.
Evil Twin Artworks are working on two Traveller computer games. The (working title) Traveller: Vanguard will focus on the Fifth Frontier War, while the second is more RPG-centric.
The 2300AD box set is delayed now, with layout starting in March 2021 and previews expected then. A campaign and the Aerospace Engineer’s Handbook are also confirmed.
Paranoia: Project Infinite Hole is at the printers. The new box set focuses on R&D service group, giving players cards of equipment which they can combine to create their own experimental items.
In the Sea of Thieves RPG, the first expansion Tales of Two Captains was also delayed by COVID-19, but there’s hope it’ll be out early in 2021 now.
