Can you play a tabletop RPG by yourself? Yes, in a way, you can.
There are some articles on Geek Native that might act as a starting point. There’s How to play a tabletop RPG by yourself and Fiona L.F. Kelly’s What there is to know about solitary gaming.
Inflatable Studios have also just put live two One Page Solo Engine offerings on Itch.io.
The first is offering is a free to download ruleset that fits on one page. In other words, want to quickly start exploring a roleplaying style world without a GM handy or needing to learn a page of complex rules then One Page Solo Engine is designed for you.
Should you master the One Page Solo Engine then you can adapt, expand and improve it to your liking as it’s been shared under a CC-By-SA 4.0 license which essentially means it’s free to use, adapt and share.
Along with a single-page collection of concise rules, Inflatable Studios have also made this interactive engine entirely free.
Running on Itcho, the One Page Solo Engine “engine” acts as that structured randomiser you need for playing a tabletop RPG by yourself. You can use the widget to determine what might happen next, generate plot hooks, random events or even look at map hexes to discover what might be there.
There’s no reason to limit the use of the solo engine just to the One Page ruleset too, it can be used for systems like D&D, Fate and Savage Worlds too.
