Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles is an isekai anime which means the lead character has been reborn or transported in some way from one world to another.
In this case, the main character is Rio, who lives in the slums and therefore has become quite callous to survive even though he’s only seven years old. That’s until Rio suddenly remembers he’s actually a Japanese university student with a tragic past.
That’s not all. Rio also discovers he has some impressive magic abilities and so uses them to solve a kidnapping case. The reward for this callous kid from the slums? Enrollment into a posh school for noble children.
As sometimes happens, Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles began as a submission to a user-generated story site before becoming a light novel. It’s gone on to find plenty of success since then, reaching 17 volumes and print more than 1.2 million copies.
