Hextml is a free tool that very quickly lets you make hex crawp maps.
While Hextml is free to use, there is a Patreon program at $1, $2 and $5 tiers which helps to fund the tool’s development. Hextml is coming along very quickly, version 9 being released recently and $5 backers get early access.
So much for free? Well, Hextml has been a labour of love for a while now as the Patron launched in 2017. In other words, years of development have gone into the site.
One of the features I especially like about Hextml is the GM mode and how that combines with the battle map-making ability and fog of war. Simply put, Hextml can turn any image you find online into a battle map (which you shouldn’t stream or use commercially unless you have the license for) and use it a virtual tabletop.
If you want a walkthrough of many of Hextml’s capabilities, then there’s a handy online tutorial.
