Midnight is an RPG setting based on the concept “What if the baddies won?” in a Tolkien-style fantasy world. What if the Dark Lord took over?
The original game was a Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition RPG from Fantasy Flight and looked unlikely ever to return after the publisher left the RPG business.
However, Edge, a Spanish studio also owned by Asmodee and which has a track record of translating and localising other RPGs into European languages picked up the Fantasy Flight games (such as Star Wars).
Then at Gen Con Online, Edge announced they would be making a new edition of Midnight with D&D 5e rules.
Last month, in time for BGG@Home, the Spanish studio created an English Twitter account at @Edge_English, gave it a Midnight avatar and a header image that seems to show the Legend of the Five Rings RPG and perhaps the strongly hinted at Twilight Imperium RPG.
It’s been tweeting some early Midnight concept art.
This image shows the descendants of the ancient Dorns and Sarcosans, a new culture who have now formed a nation of their own.
However, the image above shows some of the horse-riding nomads of southern Erenland who still follow the old Sarcosan ways.
While this image shows what contemporary Dornish people of Midnight look like.
