In September, Geek Native gave away a copy of one of the highest-rated card games in the world – 6 Nimmit!.
Games that require bluffing or knowing when to take a risk are sometimes games that require bravery. Sometimes it’s the bravest person in the room who wins the game. So, to enter the competition, readers had to say whether they considered themselves braver than their friends or not.
Geek vs Non-Geek
Here’s the breakdown of responses. It’s not a surprise to see far self-defined geeks took part in the competition than non-geeks. What were the non-geeks doing even taking part? Well, they’re most welcome! Join us. A prize is a prize.
Are you braver than your friends? | Responses |
---|---|
I’m not a geek and I’m probably not braver than my friends. | 16.58% |
I’m a geek and I’m probably braver than my friends. | 32.16% |
I’m a geek and I’m probably not braver than my friends. | 37.19% |
I’m not a geek and I’m probably braver than my friends. | 14.07% |
The most popular response was “I’m a geek and I’m probably not braver than my friends”. Modesty.
It’s easier to do the geek vs non-geek comparison if we split out the responses into two pools. Here goes.
Not geek: Are you braver than your friends? | Responses |
---|---|
I’m probably braver than my friends. | 45.90% |
I’m probably not braver than my friends. | 54.10% |
Geek: Are you braver than your friends? | Responses |
---|---|
I’m probably braver than my friends. | 46.38% |
I’m probably not braver than my friends. | 53.62% |
It’s very close! Geeks are fractionally more likely to consider themselves braver than their friends than non-geeks, but not by more than any margin of error.
This isn’t real science, I know. The poll had 200 responses and, as noted, people were in it to win a prize, and the tick box responses were always in the same order.
Despite that, it is interesting to see that most people might look at someone else if bravery was needed. What does that say about modern society?
