Name an anime in which people live in a city surrounded by giant walls? Attack on Titan? Well, yeah, but that’s not the anime I’m thinking of, and those walls are tiny in comparison.
The walls of Chimeny Town are 4,000 metres; that’s about 2.5 miles high. Those walls and the belching chimneys that fill the air with black smoke mean that no one has seen the sky.
The first three minutes of Poupelle of Chimney Town have been officially posted online, and the Japanese language anime is as stunning as reported.
The synopsis for the anime, which is based on a picture book, talks of a delivery man dropping a heart and being unable to find it. This heart becomes the trashman creature.
Those first three minutes in the clip above certainly have a falling heart, but there’s no sign of the delivery man. Instead, the origins of the trashman seem to be extraterritorial.
However, we have been told that the anime includes scenes not shown in Akihiro Nishino’s original book, added extra content to persuade people who already know the story to watch the animation.
Poupelle of Chimney Town opens in Japan on December 25th, and it is unknown whether it’ll head West.
