Foundry is a virtual tabletop with a different commercial module from Roll20, Astral and Fantasy Grounds. You pay for it once.
However, that’s not entirely straight-forward. Foundry works because it’s software that you buy and then run on your machine. Without renting internet space as you do with the others, even Fantasy Grounds has a central hub to connect to, if your device isn’t running or is locked behind firewalls (or your ISP’s rules), then no one else can connect to your Foundry.
The solution is to put your Foundry on the internet, on a server and run it from there. That’s will likely have a monthly cost, but at least there are Foundry specialist hosts to make the process easier for you.
The Forge is one such specialist, and they have a new way to try Foundry for free. Sign up and click the “Try Foundry Now” button to enable Explorer Mode. That will create a temporary license for you, and you’ll be able to poke around.
