The UK left the EU Single Market at the end of 2020 due to Brexit the year before. As a result, there are now new rules and more paperwork for businesses to deal with when sending goods from Britain to Europe.
DriveThruRPG has been affected and will now warn customers who are ordering print-on-demand books to EU countries.
The message reads;
NOTE: Brexit may cause delays and additional fees on your shipment. (More info)
Books destined for the EU are currently experiencing delays in import/export due to Brexit. Some carriers, such as UPS, might charge you VAT and a customs brokerage fee (which can be 10 Euros or more). The fee may be lessened if you choose Standard shipping below; however, standard shipping cannot be tracked. Lost or undelivered packages may be replaced only after 45 days have passed (60 days for shipments to Australia and New Zealand).
DriveThruRPG uses a company called Lightning Source to print books in the UK for dispatch to Europe.
Geek Native understands that DriveThruRPG and Lightning Source are in discussions to find a better way of handling the new legal requirements and so the situation may improve in the future.
