Cawood Publishing has a good record of producing monster books for 5e, and they’ve another project currently live on Kickstarter.
Monsters of the Wilderness for 5th Edition will have 100 (up to 120) illustrated monsters for D&D, with stat blocks, and the new beasts divided into one of seven regions. The Vancouver based publisher is asking for CA$37,000 to fund and with 25 days still on the click has CA$21,000 pledged. It’s going well. You can see the latest total or join in at the pitch page.
Curious to see how Cawood’s production efforts stack up? Good news. The Monsters of the Wilderness: Arctic Region (PDF link) is free, completed and available as a PDF to check out.
There’s a story that holds the book together, although it’s purely optional. You can use this as a bestiary or get into the legend that is Oswald Myrr, a wizard banished by the Council and who unleashed a curse on the world by opening portals known as Riftgates. It’s through these Riftgates that new monsters have come to the world.
Cawood’s own setting is the World of Myrr, but you don’t need to be using it to get value from this or previous Cawood monster books.
A CA$20 pledge (about £12) will get you the PDF copy of the book while CA$35 gets you the PDF and softcover, but it’s limited to certain countries for shipping.
The hardback, the most popular option on the Kickstarter, will set you back only CA$45 (about £26).
Higher tiers are available and are especially useful if you want to grab earlier Cawood Kickstarters.
The PDF-only tier is expected in November, all the rest in December.
