The French virtual tabletop platform Let’s Role has impressed the gaming community on Kickstarter. That’s no small feat as the campaign running at the same time as Zine Quest and The One Ring 2nd edition. Let’s Role asked for €8,000 and with just under three weeks on the clock has secured €130,000 in pledges.
Let’s Role is a web-based and free to play platform. The business plan is that cosmetic enhancements like 3D dice and publisher partnerships will keep the platform rosy. You can see the latest funding total or join in on the pitch page.
The platform’s alpha testing has been going for months, and the video clips in the pitch video aren’t an artist’s impression of what’s possible, they’re a montage of what’s actually live already.
So, if the platform is free to use and is well tested, why pay money now? Well, you get access to those cosmetics, to the Discord and get a founder status badge. Let’s Role will use that cash to upgrade servers so the platform can cope with the inbound peak of interest.
The first reward tier is €5 (about £5 at today’s exchange range), which gives you an exclusive dice set and frame.
The tier up adds early alpha access, 2 more skins and 1 GB of storage. It costs €30. Given that the pitch for Let’s Role is that it won’t put some features behind a billing gate; I wonder how storage fits into that.
Higher tiers, set at €50, provide themed assets; like fantasy, sci-fi and horror. Higher tier levels are available for private perks.
