Zine Quest 3 is coming to a close over on Kickstarter, but there is still no shortage of exciting and innovative projects. A Divorce of Druids and the Division of their Domains is one.
A two-player RPG (of sorts), A Divorce of Druids, is about two druids splitting up and dividing the land they once tended together, their domain, as a result. Domains include creatures and plants. Gameplay involves actually cutting up the zine and destroying it. You can join the project from the pitch page.
Long Tail Games describes A Divorce of Druids and the Division of their Domains as an I-Cut, You-Choose, Print-And-Destroy, Craft-RPG-Game subscription web zine for two players.
As PDFs are commonplace, a Print-and-Destroy game isn’t such a scary concept as it might have been 15 to 20 years ago. As long as you have access to a printer, you can play the game again. Although Long Tail Games view the game as something designed to be played once by each druid.
You and another player will divide your once-shared domain, including the plants and creatures within it. This requires literally cutting printed sheets of the land into two pieces. Each turn, one player cuts the land and the other gets the first choice of which piece to take.
The game has three modes; neutral good, true neutral and neutral evil. True neutral is the default, but neutral good is better for cooperative play. When there is animosity between the former-partners and destiny, the neutral evil option will be determined by the difference between the two player scores.
A pledge of AU$15 (about £9) will get you the subscription to the 4 PDF zines in the series. With shipping as extra, AU$20 gets you a single issue of the zine and 4 of the PDF.
If you want all 4 of the physical zines, that’s the full season, then it’s a pledge of AU$25.]
The estimated delivery for the project is as early as March 2021.
