Asmodee has announced they’re bought Plan B Games Plan B is a German-Canadian publisher who owns Pretzel Games, Next Move and Eggertspiele.
There’s no shortage of board games in Plan B’s catalogue, but some of the more well-known games are Azul, Camel Up, Century: Spice Road and Great Western Trail.
In the UK, these games will now available to retailers exclusively through Asmodee.
Sophie Gravel, who founded Plan B, told press;
I am delighted to see the Plan B Games family become part of the great Asmodee team. Our goal remains the same: to offer unforgettable playing experiences, both through the depth of our gameplay and premium-quality materials.”
Interestingly, Gravel has sold companies to Amsodee before, and Plan B is the group she built afterwards.
In 2016, Amosdee bought F2Z Entertainment from Sophie Gravel in a deal that got them Z-Men Games, Filosofia Editions and Plaid Hat Games. Plaid Hat Games secured its own independence in 2020.
However, Gravel kept control of Pretzel Games. Plan B was created in 2017, and Pretzel became one of its studios. Later the acquisition of eggertspiele added to that, as did the creation of Next Move Games.
If a Plan C Games is coming after this acquisition, it’ll not be created quickly as Plan B was. This time around, Gravel will stay with Asmodee for the foreseeable future.
Stéphane Carville, CEO of the Asmodee Group, noted;
The Plan B group has demonstrated, year after year, its creativity and sense of aesthetics in creating highly successful games such as Azul, which will naturally find its place among our pillar brands alongside the likes of Catan and Ticket to Ride. We are very pleased that Sophie Gravel and her teams, with whom we have developed a close partnership through the years, will be joining our group and participating in the development of our games catalogue.”
