Imagine the scene, a character in a sci-fi RPG has consulted the star charts of a sector, looking for a place to hide their stolen spacecraft, and their player asks to know about the first five planets mentioned? And then another five.
Well, if you’re the busy GM in that situation then Iron Arachne’s planet generator can help. Press a button, and you’ll get a whole planet.
Cleverly, Iron Arachne’s system lets you see the random seed used to generate the planet, which means you can write it down, use it later and get the same world back.
You could even come up with a system to produce seeds yourself from your own notes. Perhaps when generating planets for your own Sector 12, you begin each seed with s12, for example.
Most of all, I appreciate that the planet is drawn quickly by the generator. Showing players, especially over Discord or similar, helps bring the game to life without harming the theatre of the mind terribly.
Other stats for the generator are the planet’s possible population, its government and culture. Physical attributes such as size, orbit and distance from its star are also included.
