Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu, a light novel about a vampire in space from Keisuke Makino, will get an anime. The English translation of the title by some is Moon, Laika, and the Bloodsucking Princess but as of yet no streaming platform has announced they’ve secured the rights to air the show in the West.
There is some impressive talent on the project. The vampire, Irina Luminesque, will be played by Megumi Hayashibara, better known as Rei Ayanami in the Evangelion series. The director is Akitoshi Yokoyama, who did Cutie Honey Universe, and the art director is Yuji Kato from Little Witch Academia.
In the novels, two superpowers are competing in a space race. One of them decides to send a Nosferatu into space. She won’t be alone; she’ll be accompanied by a young man who bombed out of astronaut training. I’ve not read the books, so I can’t tell you whether he’s there for food or not.
Moon, Laika, and the Bloodsucking Princess is slated to premiere in Japan this year. The light novels have been published by Shogakukan’s GaGaGa Bunko imprint since 2016.
