After three months of beta testing with a select group, Roll20 has now opened the beta test of the mobile companion app to Pro Users.
The smartphone app for the virtual tabletop is not trying to be the full experience on a tiny screen. The goal is to create a companion piece to enable your smartphone to be a second screen during your virtual tabletop gaming.
Roll20’s mobile companion app will let you manage your character sheet and make dice rolls. In many cases, that means you can spend your time and attention watching your gaming group on the big screen.
More features are being added, as the app is still in development, and the FAQ details what to expect.
As of today, the companion app supports 5e and no other system. It has a brand new user interface (UI) after being reimagined entirely for mobile. It’s available for Android and iOS, smartphone and tablet.
Roll20 point out that if you take part in the beta test, you might get sent surveys as part of the test to collect your feedback. They’re working on combat next, then casting spells and will work with the community on the development of the app.
