Tirikelu is an RPG developed by Dave Morris for the Tekumel world. As a fan of Dave Morris’ previous work, I find Tirikelu the zenith of his ideas.
Tirikelu is simple, logical and fast. The system appears to be developed from his years of gaming experience from the first page due to quick, precise and streamlined flow of the rules structure.
I have not played the system yet, but is clear that Tirikelu is quick to learn and fast to play and one gets this impression immediately from the conciseness of the rules layout. There is a fairly simple yet logical injury system that allows light/heavy/grievous wounds based on the amount of hit point loss. Skills are also handled very simply and intuitively, merely being a sum of the related skill modifiers which results in a value the player must roll or under on a d20 to succeed.
Combat is also handled simply and yet with a level of complexity that goes beyond most simple RPGs. Players are allowed to perform combat maneuvers and combinations of parries, attacks and evades.
As can be expected, details on many of the campaign world related materials is scant and familiarity with Tekumel is required to use Tirikelu.
