Quebec-based Wendigo Workshop is Kickstarting a traditional RPG called Arkelon Chronicles which merges fantasy and sci-fi together.
The game is set after alien ruins are unearthed in the frozen north, which jumps the technology of the fantasy races of Arkelon forwards by hundreds of years. The campaign has 33-days still to collect funds and has secured over CA$4,000 or the CA$25,000 target at the time of writing. You can join the campaign or just check out progress on the pitch page.
There’s a 280-page and free to download Arkelon Chronicles – Playtest available from DriveThruRPG. It’s a great way to check out the game ahead of any Kickstarter pledge.
Besides bringing fantasy and sci-fi together, Akrelon Chronicles has two other stated goals; customisation with diversity and dynamism.
The game, therefore, has a robust collection of races, cultures and classes, and Wendigo Workshop is confident two characters will rarely be alike.
When it comes to dynamism, the game has been designed so that characters, enemies and allies can react to their environment or other threats. Characters can take actions when it’s not their turn, and some classes specialise in doing so.
The system uses d20, with most rolls being made by both the GM and player, a d20 each. Arkelon also uses stamina points to create distinctive combat turns.
Playable races in the game include Arcane Golems, Dragonkins, Dwarves, Elves, Humans, Jaanvaris, Muboses, Orcs, Shardlings, Shiaris, Trolls and Vansharis.
A pledge of CA$20 (about £12) will get you the core rules in digital format, and an upgrade to CA$35 adds the artbook while also unlocking a digital community copy.
It takes a pledge of CA$75 to get the 600-page hardback, but that comes with stickers, the digital rulebooks and the artbook with a community PDF as well.
Higher tiers are available for shops and collectors, with an expected delivery of August 2022 for all tiers.
