Invoking Playmobil, Dirty Vortex shared on Instagram this fantastically creepy illustration for Solemn Vale.
Solemn Vale is a folklore horror RPG that has about two days left on Kickstarter. It’s funded, and Dirty Vortex’s attention-grabbing marketing images are purely the cherry on the top of a successful campaign.
It worked on me. I flipped from “I can’t afford another Kickstarter” to “Maybe I can squeeze it in…”
If you’ve seen movies like The Wicker Man, then you’ll have an idea of the vibe that Solemn Vale is channelling. The pretty village looks like the best of British, with fresh baking, clean families and probably even a church by a scenic bridge.
And rituals in the basement, deep xenophobia that applies to anyone who’s not local and the unshakable belief in the way things should be. In other words; perfect on the outside but unyielding and sinister throughout – a bit like a Playmobil figure with a smile painted on its plastic face.
