Fists of the Ruby Phoenix is one of the last items on the Paizo release schedule that was shared back in June 2021 and today the Pathfinder publisher has made a free to download player’s guide (PDF link) available.
Fists of the Ruby Phoenix is a three-part adventure path that begins with Despair on Danger Island and is about the Ruby Phoenix Tournament.
The sorcerer Hao Jin has returned to Tian Xia to host her decennial international fighting tournament, and contestants from all over the world have arrived to try their chance at winning a prize from her vault of incredible treasures. Before they can compete in the Tournament, however, fighters must first complete a series of qualifying challenges on the uninhabited tropical island of Bonmu, where wild dinosaurs roam amid the ancient ruins of a lost civilization. Can the heroes defend their island stronghold, outlast their many ruthless rivals, and survive the perils of so-called Danger Island?
The player’s guide is a safe document, as you’d hope, for your players to read. It will tell them about the known history of The Ruby Phoenix Tournament, of the Hao Jin Tapestry and how things have changed now that Hao Jin has returned to the Material PLane.
There’s information about the archipelago nation of Minata and Goka, the City of Wonders and a full-page map of Tian Xia.
The player’s guide has a handy summary of the Tournament RUles, including the pre-qualifier event.
There’s also help on creating a player character suitable for the Tournament or adapting an established one. The free download offers new character backgrounds such as “Newcomer in Need” and “Second Chance Champion”.
The Ruby Phoenix Adventure Path will be a major focus for Paizo in 2021, ties into the new Pathfinder Beginner Box and is expected to release in October.
