The cost of a monthly subscription to Roll20 will increase from July 1st, the virtual tabletop has announced today.
The cost of a Plus will increase to $5.99 and Pro monthly subscription will increase to $10.99.
The annual cost for a Plus account rises from $49.99 to $59.99 and the Pro subscription rises from $99.99 to $109.99.
Free accounts will remain free.
It is the first time the platform has increased the subscription price. The service has been running for nearly 10 years, has introduced dynamic lighting, token markers, APIs, macros and other enhancements.
Roll20 weathered the surge in interest in online RPGs in general and caused by the pandemic. However, it also faces fierce competition. Fantasy Grounds is a software, not browser, based alternative which now has a Unity version and a deal with Wizards of the Coast, Astral Tabletop is partnered with DriveThruRPG, Foundry is growing quickly on its pay-once-own-forever model, and Mythic Table is free for life, open-source and edging towards a Kickstarter goal that will enable it to hire full-time developers.
Any Roll20 user who subscribes before July 1, 2021, will have their next two years of costs “locked-in” at the old, lower rate.
