NeverEnding is a site that helps you generate character illustrations. You can use it for free or pay a little to get access to more choices.
Following a successful Kickstarter earlier this year, the site is due to go down briefly and soon. Version 2.0 of NeverEnding will be in place later today.
What’s in version 2.0? A bunch of new character customisation options have been added. These include:
- Beast Heads and Snoots (for dragonkin or anthropomorphs)
- Prosthetic Arms and Legs
- Top and Bottom Undergarments (perfect if you want chainmail shirt or leggings)
- Cloaks and Jackets
- Gloves
- Spell Effects (hold fire or lightning in your hand)
- Back Items (backpacks, sheaths, quivers)
- Weaponised Crutches
- Animal companions
The weaponised crutches and prosthetics are part of the site’s commitment to a greater range of heroes. If you rock a prosthetic in reality, you might also want your character to have one to better represent you. Or, you might just be playing a cool steampunk boxer or fantasy inventor.
NeverEnding extras
Character design options are not the only enhancements that NeverEnding 2.0 is bringing.
The system is getting a new layout, one that’s an improvement for mobiles, but I gather there are still some quirks with Safari that will be ironed out in the next few weeks.
NeverEnding will add a Token Maker so you can transform your PC portraits and NPCs into tokens for your virtual tabletop.
The site is also getting an NPC Generator that builds based on interesting character descriptions rather than on stats.
