You might have heard the joke or urban myth of the Millennial / Gen Z / Sagittarius saying, “What if there was a Netflix for books…” and the punchline is that libraries have fallen from everyday awareness. Cast aside the idea that when you were born in any way influences your intelligence, it’s a horrible truth that libraries do seem to have had better years.
Well, what if you could borrow a tabletop RPG for a bit? That’s the service RPG Kitchen offers. For example, you can pay $5 right now to rent Tin Star Games’ Relics: A Game of Angels.
You’ll get online access, but you won’t be able to download it. Tin Star Games will get $4.50. Later on, RPG Kitchen plan to let you then buy the RPG and then that’s enabled, you’ll be able to get Relics for $25.
The pitch to publishers is threefold;
- the 10% RPG Kitchen takes is less than some other places,
- this can be an additional revenue stream,
- you’ll reach more gamers.
It’s straightforward for gamers to;
- Try before you buy
- The money you paid in rent counts towards the purchase price
- RPG Kitchen say your money goes towards causes, the hobby and the industry rather than their pockets
There’s already some evidence that RPG Kitchen is doing that. The first time Geek Native mentioned the site was back in February when RPG Kitchen announced Small Press RPG Games Day.
