Green Ronin Publishing make the popular Mutants & Masterminds sci-fi RPG, and they’ve a lovely, innovative idea for the game.
Today, M&M developer Crystal Frasier announced the Summer of Starhaven which will run in June, July and August.
Starhaven, until recently, has been background flavour in M&M. It’s a city of of alien refugees which featured in the Cosmic Handbook, and then again briefly in the SuperTeam Handbook thanks to the local villain Null.
More recently, Green Ronin’s new designer Alex Thomas ran a live play adventure in Starhaven for Green Ronin staff and during Mutants & Masterminds Monday it was joked that the publisher should run Summer of Starhaven.
So, they will.
However, Starhaven isn’t just a supplement for Mutants & Masterminds. The setting will be built with M&M Patreon members.
Crystal wrote;
But this isn’t going to be a straightforward campaign setting. We’re going to involve our patrons, casting you in the role of alien refugees who help shape the flavor of the city. You’ll vote on the city’s government, the regions the book explores in detail, and design a villain for the city as a whole group! We’ll post monthly articles delving into bits of Starhaven lore, and after the summer ends, we’ll collect and expand everything into a new book: The Guide to Starhaven, which includes all the patreon material and Alex’s Siege of Starhaven adventure to get your alien heroes started protecting their new home!
Furthermore, M&M Patreon members will get a discount if they buy The Guide to Starhaven as a thank you for any effort they may have put into creating the accessory.
I think this is a lovely use for a Patreon.
