AD&D’s Dungeon Masters Guide (1e – 1979) listed all sorts of inspiration in Appendix N: Inspirational and Educational Reading, some of which was weird pulp fantasy. That’s the spark that ignites Planet X Games’ interest and drive to make Jungle Tomb of the Mummy Bride for DCC and (again) for D&D.
The campaign is rolling in success. Levi Combs set the goal at $2,000, and with more than two weeks still to attract backers, nearly $12,000 has been pledged.
Planet X Games already have this module written, but for 5e. They’ll be re-releasing that again, thanks to the success of the Kickstarter. However, the publisher insists that the DCC version has been thoroughly tuned to suit the style of the OSR ruleset.
The module has four levels of the Mummy Bride’s ziggurat, which means one extra has Planet X’s 5e original only had three. That’s proof this adventure is more than money for old rope.
Tales of the accursed pyramid and the trap-filled tomb of the infamous Mummy Bride have long been a traveler’s tale, passed along by wayward explorers and greedy plunderers alike. Deep within the verdant jungles of the south, amidst a Green Hell of impenetrable jungle, bloodthirsty cannibals and ancient myth, lies the shattered remnants of a once-powerful civilization and the terrible gods who ruled over them. Rumors swirl of untold riches and un-plundered magic for those brave (or foolish!) enough to claim it. Will your players survive… and what will be left of them?
Also, GMs will get access to monsters, patrons, and new DCC spells in the adventure book. Stretch goals will add to this. There are plenty of maps as well, some of which are shown on the Kickstarter pitch page.
One of the unlocked stretch goals is custom character sheets which have that “pulp jungle vibe”. Others have added pre-generated characters and other adventure conversions.
A pledge of $15 gets the PDF of the adventure, with all the PDF maps and digital stretch goals as rewards. Or, for $15, you could swap that for the D&D version.
It’s $10 more to get the softcover. Either the DCC or 5e book is added to the rewards list at the $25 tier.
There is a hardback option; $40gets you that Collectors edition of the book plus the PDFs.
All tiers are expected to be delivered in December 2021.
