The Four Horsemen are human mercenary companies that feature in The Revelations Cycle (the first book of which is Cartwright’s Cavaliers) and have become vital to the whole mech franchise. There are now over 60 novels in the Four Horsemen Universe (aka 4HU), with 9 anthologies and more than a dozen authors.
In fiction, the series is about humanity encountering aliens for the first time and discovering that we’re one of the few species with the skill and appetite for war. As a race, we use mechs to go toe to toe with powerful alien forces. Writers are now bringing the series to tabletop and starting with a funded Kickstarter for the Four Horseman Universe with Savage Worlds.
There’s a long count on the Kickstarter clock and still 37 days left to back at the time of writing. The goal was $15,000, and we’re a few thousand over that and into stretch goal territory.
The aliens did not appreciate humanity’s growing successes on the galactic battlefield, especially as the personal mechas known as CASPers (Combat Assault System, Personal) evened the odds and let Humans bring the fight to powerful and deadly aliens. Humanity’s star may be rising, but plenty of aliens are eager to see mankind crash and burn.
A hardback of the game is available for $25, plus shipping. We’re told the retail price will be $40 and so this is quite a saving. After just a few more pledges, the gamebook will be 256-pages long and may even push beyond 300-pages if the Kickstarter breaks the $30,000 mark.
It’s worth noting, of course, that you’ll need a core set of Savage Worlds rules to play Four Horsemen Universe.
A pledge of $35 adds in a die and a set of cards. One stretch goal will make sure that the suits of the cards in that deck match the Four Horsemen.
If you want your name to appear as a supporter, then find $60 for your pledge. You’ll get the physical book, ebook, dice, cards and some digital art.
There are many more pledges, some for retailers, and the highest individual tier is $500, which comes with dinner with the authors.
The estimated delivery date for the game is in June 2022 for all the tiers, although I imagine you’re free to arrange dinner at a mutually agreeable time.
