Mamoru Hosoda’s Belle looks to be both a powerful and beautiful anime. The feature-length is due out in Japan on July 16th, and the international, subtitled trailer is here now.
The story follows 17-year-old Suzu, a schoolgirl living with her father in a rural village. Suzu once loved to sing with her mother but hasn’t been able to sing again after her death.
The virtual community called U has over 5 billion users and changes life for Suzu. In U, Suzu can sing again. Her avatar, her AS, is known as Belle and becomes a superstar.
On the day of a huge concert, Dragon appears and ruins it. Even as Belle seeks Dragon to find out why he wanted to inflict so much pain, the search for the avatar continues worldwide, and the hunt for the stranger begins.
Director Mamoru Hosoda is known for Summer Wars, Wolf Children and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
