I didn’t understand a word in the latest Sakugan trailer (there’s an English one here), and nothing happens, but it truly held my attention.
The worldbuilding in Sakugan Labyrinth Marker looks incredible.
Delayed because of you-know-what, the anime is based on a light novel and is set in the distant future where people live cramped below the surface in the “Labyrinth”.
It’s an intemperate place, but also full of mineral riches which are mined for their value. It’s the workers who do this, the lowest in the underground pecking order.
The series follows nine-year-old Memempu and her father Gagumber, who operate a two-person mining robot. The pair of them decide to explore the most dangerous part of the Labyrinth in search of Memempu’s missing mother.
Memempu is voiced by Kanon Amane, who won the role in a competition. Hiroki Touchi (Demitrius from Cestvs, Eric Toga from B: The Beginning) is Gagumber, while Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Brian Brandon from B: The Beginning) is Yuri the hacker and Misaki Watada (Onnanoko / Seito from Fruits Basket) as Muro a gangster seen below.
Sakugan is now expected out at the end of the year.
