The Dungeon Dudes have more than a quarter of a million YouTube subscribers. They launched a Kickstarter campaign for the 5e dark city setting called Dungeons of Drakkenheim and quickly smashed the $500,000 pledge mark.
At the time of writing, the campaign has over 5,000 backers, 28 days still to go, and some projections suggest they’ll finish at nearly $4m. That’s a very rough ballpark, but, if accurate, it would make Dungeons of Drakkenheim the most successful 5e supplement on Kickstarter, ahead of Matt Colville’s Strongholds & Streaming and Hit Point Press’ Humblewood. The top three are The One Ring 2e, the Lord of the Rings RPG from Free League, which made nearly $8m, Deluxe Exalted 3e from Onyx Path and Monte Cook’s Nunemera.
Dungeons of Drakkenheim is a campaign that takes D&D characters from level 1 to 13 and is based on the actual play live stream.
Drakkenheim, in the game, was destroyed by an eldritch storm of falling debris and is now an urban wasteland contaminated by otherwordly magic. Paramount to the setting are Delerium crystals that can be found in ruins and confer power, madness, and trigger transformation.
Drakkenheim is suffused by a luminescent fog known as THE HAZE. Not only does this prevent characters from taking a long rest anywhere within the city ruins, but the environment and monsters within can inflict a deadly new condition called ELDRITCH CONTAMINATION! This new status condition works like Exhaustion: as characters accumulate more Contamination Levels, they experience debilitating symptoms and develop otherworldly MUTATIONS. Beware, any who reach Contamination Level 6 are horrifically transformed into monsters!
The first pledge level with a reward attached offers the Dungeons of Drakkenheim setting as a PDF. That unlocks at $25 and includes the full set of 20 adventure locations, 25 new monsters, Delerium and magic items.
One step higher, at $55, with shipping separate but offered worldwide, is the Crimson Countess’ Collection that adds a fabric map of Darkkenheim and the hardcover book.
At $85, a Delerium dice set, tactical maps and a pack of cards (either Eldritch Contamination or Magic) are added. $125 includes both card sets, miniatures (5), pin badges, a GM screen and even a Rat Prince plushie.
The highest tier, which has had over 1,000 backers, costs $225 and further adds premium dice and the Collectors Edition hardcover.
The pledge tiers, irrespective of level, are expected to be fulfilled by April 2022.
