Dark Horse has put together iZombie co-creator Chris Roberson with Hellboy’s Mike Mignola and artists Christopher Mitten and Ben Stenbeck for a new Hellboy series.
Hellboy: The Silver Lantern Club is due out in October as a 5-issue set of stand-alone stories. Each one follows a different Victorian occult investigator and their skirmishes with evil before Hellboy arrived.
The Silver Lantern Club asks;
Who stood against the forces of darkness in the days long before Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.?”
Chris Roberson, the writer who created the horror iZombie in 2010, the comic that inspired The CW’s TV series, tackled the history of B.P.R.D. in the announcement of The Silver Lantern. Roberson said;
Over the years readers have gotten to know a few of the people who investigated the occult and supernatural long before Hellboy and the B.P.R.D., like the Witchfinder himself Sir Edward Grey and the globetrotting Sarah Jewell,”
In the first issue, Hellboy learns about an exorcism that did not go according to plan and discovers the Silver Lantern Club. The story tells of member Simon Bruttenholm relates a tale that dates to the dawn of radio and of Sir Edward Grey and Sarah Jewel in a struggle against… what might technology itself.
Roberson noted;
But Sir Edward and Sarah were just two members of the Silver Lantern Club, a group of occult investigators who met regularly in a London tavern to swap stories over drinks. In Hellboy: The Silver Lantern Club Hellboy and Professor Bruttenholm take a break from an ongoing investigation to meet up with the professor’s Uncle Simon at that same tavern, who was a member of the club himself, to hear stories of the glory days.”
The first issue will be out in time for Halloween, October 27th and published as a full-coloured 32-page comic.
There’s no listing for the comic yet at Dark Horse’s retail outlet Things From Another World yet, however. Not even a pre-order.
