The collectable LEGO version of Star Wars’ charming RD-D2 is fresh and in stock at Zavvi.
This isn’t the old 10225 but model 75308. My LEGOfu isn’t good enough to tell you what that means, but I can say that this R2 is 2314 pieces.
That’s a lot of LEGO, and the completed droid will be 31 cm high and 19 wide. You’re going to need a pretty deep bookcase to display the droid (for when people come looking) as well, as the cutie comes in at 15cm deep.
The collectors’ edition variant comes with an information plaque and a special Lucasfilm 50th anniversary LEGO brick (you just know ebay will love those) and a note that this is intended for adult builders. Yes, this is an actual 18+ rated LEGO droid build!
The final model will have a retractable mid-leg, a rotating head, opening and extendable front hatches, and a periscope if you’re up for the challenge. Hidden lightsaber compartment? That, too.
If you’re a good enough builder and have the £180 needed to buy the model, you may not be motivated by the news that you can also get a free t-shirt with the purchase; just add it to your basket for the discount to apply. Or, if you’re like me and have neither the money nor the talent, you’re probably paying more attention to freebies!
