It seems to be known alternatively as either Dolls’ Frontline or Girls’ Frontline. The Tactical Dolls are killer androids that go rogue after World War III, and so humanity, in its wisdom, sends more Tactical Dolls to deal with the problem.
When we last saw a trailer for the anime, it looked grim and sinister. Delayed by the lockdown, now due for 2022, the latest trailer is filled with the horror of war.
Created by Sunborn Network as a smartphone game, the show focuses on unlikely costumes and plenty of combat.
It’s a near-future alternative timeline for Earth, we’ve had a disease outbreak, a nuclear war, and as a result, there’s hardly anyone left.
Androids are needed for labour and combat, but it’s often private companies rather than the meagre remains of nations that get the T-Dolls in force.
Sunborn Network is a Chinese company, so it’s interesting to see their commercially successful vision of a What If… War projection. The game got an English version before a Japanese one and clearly has been successful enough for the anime to push on. Sequels are on the way.
