Gollancz has just published J.T. Greathouse’s debut fantasy novel The Hand of the Sun King, and you can win a copy of it here.
If you’re a fan of authors like Robin Hobb, Brandon Sanderson and R.F. Kuang then this first book in the Pact and Pattern might very well suit your tastes.
The New York Times’ Kevin J. Anderson described The Hand of the Sun King;
An original fantasy filled with magic and culture, the story of a character torn between two names, two loyalties, and two definitions of good and evil.”
The story follows that of Wen Alder, whose father has roots back to the right hand of the Emperor and whose mother has roots that trace back to those who rejected and resisted the Empire’s rule.
Alder can choose between them or find a better path, a magical path, but in doing so, risks becoming caught in a war between the gods themselves.

The decorations on the hand in the book’s front cover might suggest Chinese art to you. It does to me. I note that J.T. Greathouse spent months in China, at the Minzu University, learning about the Chinese language and culture.
