I don’t sense the crowdfunding for Kuraykaba has been straightforward. The most recent round wanted 20m yen and got near to 9m. However, earlier rounds asked for 2.5m and raised nearly 9m yen, and the one before raised 4m.
The result is the “Opening Chapter” of the steampunk detective fantasy and a feature opening at Toky’s Cine Libre Ikeburo theatre.
Twiflo, the company sheparding the project, describes it;
Our story is set beneath the surface of the great metropolis, below the district of Ogi-town in a realm of dreams that floats in a haze of purple lignite smoke.
A network of roads stretches away underground, concealing bandits at every turn! An armored train snakes through the looming darkness: the steel-clad train Sokore 463 is equipped with a 75mm mountain gun that can blow a target to smithereens! In command is the mysterious girl Tanne.
What awaits her and her comrades? From the winding alleys of Akegata (dawn) to the deep subterranean world of Kuragari (dark), a daring adventure unfolds!
However, Crunchyroll’s blog has found a synopsis which reads;
Soutaro is a detective who leads a monotonous and depraved life. He gets caught up in the mysterious disappearance incident of a group of people in his home town of Ougi-cho, and goes underground to search for clues in an underground world called “Kuragari”. What does Shotarou see there?
Backers will be able to buy the associated novella by Ryohgo Narita (Durarara!!) for 12K yen. That’s about $110! Youch.
