Chaosium has announced they’ve acquired Cthulhu Britannica and World War Cthulhu from Cubicle 7.
The two lines were produced by the Irish publisher under license, and that expired in 2017.
There are twelve books in the Britannica line, which took a look at the British Isles through the Cthulhu Mythos lens. The War War Cthulhu range is slightly smaller, with eight titles, and was set during various wars and, again, with a Cthulhu spin.
Both RPG settings won various awards. Chaosium has said they’ll rerelease the game but for Call of Cthulhu 7e, with new art and layout, but no new titles are planned yet.
Cubicle 7 hasn’t had the license for four years, so it would be unfair to classify the departure of Cthulhu Britannica and World War Cthulhu as a loss, but it follows the loss of The One Ring and Lone Wolf.
A new edition of Doctor Who RPG has given Cubicle 7 headlines recently. The company’s expansive Warhammer range includes Warhammer Fantasy Role Play, Warhammer 40K with Wrath and Glory and Age Sigmar with Soulbound.
More recently, a 5e (D&D’s 5e) for the Victoriana steampunk fantasy has been announced by Cubicle 7.
