The anime-inspired tabletop RPG Exalted, which is now part of Paradox Interactive along with the World of Darkness, will get a fantasy TV series.
Set 800 years after the fall of the Sol Exalted, at a time when the Scarlet Empress has gone missing. Those with access to secrets do not expect her to return.
Great houses, Dragon Houses, now compete for dominance in a format familiar to certain fantasy TV shows, with many claiming direct descent from the Empress.
As the Dragon Houses bicker, they ignore the threat of the Celestial Exalted.
The show is being made by Jenkins and Tate Entertainment. In a press release the CEO Brian Jenkins said;
I’ve always been a huge fan of the game and have continued to support it as a role player and as a consumer. It’s a game that has always inspired me and allowed me to immerse myself into its exciting world; it makes sense to translate the game experience into a TV show reality.
Jenkins and Tate have another RPG TV show on their roster too. They’re the company producing Onyx Path’s Scion TV show. Onyx Path produces content for Exalted, and other Paradox RPGs, suggesting that the close relationship between the publishers may be a factor here. Or, at least, networked introductions.
Steve Smith, COO of Jenkins and Tate, told the press;
We’re excited to be working closely with Paradox Interactive to bring this property to life. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Exalted to life through a TV series that will enthral the vast existing fan base around the world and introduce this magical, exhilarating world to an even wider audience through what will be a high-end, must-see production.”
