Himbo Treasure Hunt is the latest “Name Your Own Price” RPG from Rowan, Rook and Decard. Specifically, it’s from Sasha Sienna and Grant Howitt.
As a heads up, Itch.io suggested I pay $24 for the download. I declined, this is a single-page PDF, and it made me wonder how Itch or RRD influence that suggestion.
On download and opening the page up, it’s a familiar format and one that reminds me of Honey Heist. That’s to say, a few black and white images and lots of text, sometimes at jaunty angles, squeezed in.
What happens in Himbo Treasure Hunt
Firstly, you don’t have to play a guy him Himbo Treasure Hunt. You can be a Herbo, Brobo, Thembro or Shimbo. You can play whatever Xbo you can imagine. But you’re not academically inclined.
Secondly, a firm called “CashCorp” is going to buy your gym, knock it down and turn it into high-end apartments.
You have a plan to stop them. You’ve heard of ancient treasure… 1973 antique, from that far back. If you can find this treasure by 5 pm then, well, probably, you can stop CashCorp.
The game starts at 7 am, with each dice roll representing the culmination of an hour of mystery solving, action and progress. Things happen throughout the day.
Himbo’s have three stats;
- Beef – strength and endurance.
- Teeth – charm, smile and fashion.
- Feet – agility, speed and balance.
RRD is asking for other “EE” stat ideas. I propose “Leet” to represent your digital skills, such as Instagram rally rousing and guerilla activities.
Overall
Loads of fun, but not the easiest of Rowan, Rook and Decard’s PDFs to read. The latter is due to all the content squeezed in (not even space for 1970s style traps).
I don’t think it’s worth $20, but it’s something I’d happily pay a couple of bucks.
