This blogger has invested in a dice advent calendar. Yes, already. No, I don’t need any more dice.
I did so before the Tabletop Gaming Magazine announced a £250 board game calendar this week.
They only had 100 at launch. Now, they only have 50. It’s selling out. Gamers who haven’t splashed their cash on a dice advent calendar can instead spend £250 on a board game one.
There’s 25 different hand-wrapped games and accessories behind each numbered door. That’s £10 each. Claire Ingram, the magazine’s publisher, said;
We wanted to go big this year… there’s so many good things in this box – for gamers of all stripes – which will give you a nice surprise every day leading up to Christmas.”
We ended up with 25 days because of how many publishers wanted to be involved this year. When you open the bonus day is totally up to you – whenever you decide to give yourself an extra treat,”
We know that publishers like Osprey Games, Pegasus Spiele, Loke Battle Mats, Free League Publishing, Horrible Guild, and even Honey Badger’s sweetie company.
That £250 is a lot, but the retail value is, I’m told, £550.
Yeah, but what? I asked Chris Eggett, the magazine’s editor, for a clue!
We’ve got one absolutely belting Must-Play game in the box, as well as an award winning game – you’ll have to dig back through the award winners of this year to work out what those are. You’ll need to be a real detective to track down the rest. Everything else was very well reviewed, or will put a big smile on your face.”
Frankly, it’s frustrating that I can’t tell you how good it is.”
I asked for photos, got some, but all the calendars are gift wrapped! That’s a nice touch, but still not much of a clue.
Tabletop Gaming Magazine did this last year. Chris told me;
We were overwhelmed with how quickly last years’ calendar sold out, so we’ve simply gone bigger this year. I honestly think gamers will get a bit emotional about how good it is. We’ve got over 14 full games in there for players to unwrap every day, plus some really good extras. There’s really something for everyone.”
14 games, then, a clue! Easy to see how 14 games make £550 in retail.
