British parents might be wise to be exceptionally organised this Christmas for toy shopping.
Geek Native has covered how Brexit is hurting tabletop games companies. It’s getting worse, and the pandemic does not help.
In the UK this month there are petrol stations (gas pumps) closing and panic buying. There is fuel in the country, but not enough drivers qualified and willing to run the supply trucks. The already creaking supply network is crumbling.
Parcel Hero commented on recent figures that nearly a quarter of stores are running low and a fifth of all transport companies have stopped trading.
These ONS figures are bad news for shoppers needing staple goods. Many retailers should now be in their Christmas build up period, instead of which they are struggling to meet today’s demands for basic items. With available drivers seemingly as rare as hen’s teeth, there’s huge demand for every inch of space on those trucks that are on the move. That means higher value items are being prioritised, and bulky staples are going to the back of the queue.
The ONS is the Office for National Statistics, official data for the country. In response, the government will issue some emergency and until Christmas only visas, in a Brexit u-turn, but experts say it’s not enough. There are valid concerns for a real Christmas crisis.
