There’s a heady mix of emotion, action, science and magic on display in Netflix’s trailer for Arcane. That’s their League of Legends anime, or, at least, their League of Legends animated show. It doesn’t quite have the anime vibe.
Due out November 6th and made by the League of Legends team, Arcane is an origins story.
Set it Piltover, the utopian region, as well as Zaun, the oppressed, we’ve Vi and Jinx getting serious. In fact, Greg Street, the head of creative development at Riot, said;
It’s not a light-hearted show. There are some serious themes that we explore there, so we wouldn’t want kids tuning in and expecting something that it’s not.”
Brandon Beck, one of Arcane’s creators, added;
Arcane is one of these big, exciting endeavors for us. Originally, League started off with a bunch of characters and we threw them together really quickly. Over time, players became really attached to the characters and we wanted to build more of a universe around them. We have been, over the last few years, experimenting with what can longer-form epic storytelling look like. Animation felt like a natural way for us to deliver a fantastical world.
