Sports anime have become a thing. Now Storybrewers Roleplaying, the indie behind the acclaimed Jane Austen RPG Good Society, are on track to fund a sports tabletop RPG.
The Australian based publishers are asking for AU$35,000 to fund. There are three weeks still on the clock, over 450 backers and AU$30,000 pledged. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, but that’s an excellent start for the Fight With Spirit Kickstarter.
The art looks gorgeous, and the game uses cards. It’s easy to see why people are curious, if cautious, about the pitch. Storybrewers’ track record certainly suggests the game should be good.
It’s about more than just sports, as well. It’s about relationships, motivations and action on and off the court.
Fight with Spirit is built to tell sports stories inspired by anime such as Free, Run with the Wind, and Chihayafuru, as well as high school movies like Bring it On, and Remember the Titans. But Fight with Spirit is a flexible system that isn’t limited to an everyday college or high school. We’ve used it to play wizarding contests like the triwizard tournament, and set it in history like A League of Their Own.
There are financial hardship pledges. However, if you can, AU $29 (about £16) will get you the Fight with Spirit PDF, the cards in digital and all the digital stretch goals that unlock.
At AU, $89 (about £48) backers are rewarded with the Fight with Spirit Box Set. That’s a physical addition meaning shipping will be added later, and you may have taxes to pay. In addition, backers at this level get digital copies too.
There are other tiers for retailers and gaming groups who want more than one box set. However, the estimated delivery is December 2022 for all the levels.
