Odd Bard Games and author Tim Earley announced the Holler, a folk horror for Savage Worlds nearly a year ago. Now, in time for Halloween, the Kickstarter is slated for October 12th.
Dark fantasy, folk horror and Appalachian Pulp Gothic come together in a setting inspired by the sardonic humour of Flannery O’Connor’s short fiction, Cormac McCarthy’s early Appalachian novels, the TV series Justified, Manley Wade Wellman’s John the Balladeer tales and others.
The result of this mashup of sources in a campaign world filled with demons, diggers and tommyknockers. An ecological menace of the Blight threatens the land, and dangerous machines forged by industrialists terrorise the plains. In opposition, there’s granny women, moonshiners and miners.
Pinnacle President Shane Hensley previously told fans;
The evocative cover and a quick skim through the contents instantly jumped out at me as something new and different. I was raised in Appalachia and identify greatly with the material. What I love about Tim’s take is it highlights the beauty and community of the region, doesn’t shy away from the negatives, and uses magic and folklore to transform it into something exciting and illuminating people all over the world can identify with.
