Sandy Petersen has a new board game for Cthulhu fans. The Call of Cthulhu RPG designer has his own company these days, Petersen Games, but this cooperative game carries the moniker Call of Cthulhu and has been co-announced by the RPG’s publisher Chaosium.
The Terror Paths co-op suits 1 to 6 players and suggests 20 minutes per player with an age of 14+. I wasn’t expecting a solo board game from Petersen at all. That has my interest!
In a statement to the press and fans, Sandy Petersen said;
It’s terrific to re-activate my old connections with Chaosium and work closely with them once more. I look forward to introducing new players to the horror of Lovecraft’s tales with a fast and easy to play board game. It also has the depth and detail to fascinate even the most experienced gamer. It provides an authentic and unique Call of Cthulhu experience. The game design is done and I consider Call of Cthulhu Terror Paths to be my personal contribution to the 40th anniversary of Call of Cthulhu!”
The game, which also credits Lincoln Petersen for design, is due out in 2022 and there’s a newsletter sign up form on the bottom of the announcement page.
The set will come with two maps, one for different scenarios. We’re also told that Terror Paths can be played as a one-off or, echoing the RPG, it might be possible to survive to a second scenario and play through a mythos campaign.
The threat in Terror Paths is Menace with a capital M. At the start of any scenario, players won’t even know what they are up against.
Along with the news of the game, Petersen also shared some art from it, which looks incredible.
