Free RPG Day is October the 16th.
There are all sorts of freebies available for people who can venture out and into friendly local gaming stores (FLGS). There’s a deal, though. The idea is that we all benefit if people play more games, different games, and buy them from shops.
It’s been a tough few years for the concept. Most of us have not been able to actually get to a store. Free RPG Day itself has new owners/organisers.
We’re in the middle of a shipping crisis. This year’s event has also been affected, and we’re expecting some regions to hold days on other dates and others to have limited supplies.
Here’s what we expect has gone into the supply boxes set to stores.
Goodman Games
You can get all the previous Goodman Games’ freebies from their webstore. They’re no longer free.
This year, there’s a chance to pick up “Tomb of the Savage King” or “The Sunken Tower of Set” as a freebie.
Paizo Publishing
The adventure The Starfinder Four vs. The Hardlight Harlequin is expected to be given to stores. For Pathfinder fans, the fantasy RPG, The Threshold of Knowledge adventure, is an option.
Q Workshop
Steampunk Clockwork dice will be included in the box of freebies sent to FLGS. I expect they’ll go first.
WizKids
To preview their new D&D Frameworks minis range, WizKids is offering up “Grim Cottage Encounters”.
9th Level
Shops will get 12 copies of the indie RPG anthology “level 1: We All Wear Masks”.
Mantic & Dave Taylor
Working with Dave Taylor Miniatures, Mantic is bringing an instructional booklet on building and painting a “Boss-Fight Final Chamber”.
Hit Point Press
The publisher is bringing two different samples to the day. There’s the Humblewood adventure The Heart of Dako, and there’s the big bad Zara Harlowe.
Magpie Games
This Kickstarter genius of a company is going back to an earlier success and providing some Root RPG content. In conjunction with Leder Games, “Bertram’s Cove Quickstart” will be in the Free RPG Day box.
Cubicle 7
For the Warhammer: Age of Sigmar RPG, Soulbound, Cubicle 7 have put together an adventure in the Realm of Death with “Reap and Sow”.
Free RPG Day will also be an early chance to see the next edition of the steampunk RPG Victoriana. The game is being ported to 5e.
Green Ronin
The RPG of romantic fantasy, Blue Rose, has a quick start. Six copies of that, which includes an adventure scenario, will be available in stores.
Modiphius
Dune, Star Trek and Modiphius’ own Achtung Cthulhu! are all presented in the freebie box but, like everything else, is strictly limited in numbers.
Edge Studio
The first look at the forthcoming new Twilight Imperium will be made available at Free RPG Day. Each FLGS should get six copies of “Ashes of Power”.
Infinite Black
Copies of the “MORK BORG in space” and very gory Vast Grimm adventure called “Into the Wurmhole”. It includes everything, except for the dice, you need to play.
Need Games
“Fabula Ultima” quickstart is inspired by JRPGs, which is included in the Free RPG Day goodie box – but there’s only one.
Pegasus Spiele
This year, an adventure of betrayal and greed called “Curse of the Rat Queen” is an option for the Talisman RPG.
Privateer Press
The Iron Kingdoms is getting a new RPG, and for it, FLGS can offer up the adventure “An Echo in the Darkness”.
Sirius Dice
One lovely wooden dice box per store per box. A generous offer, and a real reason to visit shops and not hope that the downloads will be made available afterwards.
CMON
Six copies of “Zombicide: Chronicles” have been provided for each box by this growing tabletop company.
Steamforged Games
5e gets a classic dungeon crawl with “Epic Encounters: The Hills Have Legs”.
