If you’re on Facebook and browse like me, you’ll be used to great-looking pitches for Kickstarter projects. Unique dice are in no shortage. Flashy dice, shiny dice, dice with things inside!
I spoke to Louis Cassidy-rice about this second attempt to fund clever mushroom dice. Clever because you can use them as terrain; clever because of math and design; clever because Louis found a way to lower the price.
The Kickstarter is now live, and the target goal is just shy of £30,000. It’s not had a flying start, but check it Kickstarter nevertheless.
Production costs are out of the hands of creators, so the dice cost what they cost. It’s frustrating too because I’m sure a flashy pitch video blasted all over social media would ensure this campaign would hit targets.
As it is now, though, these mushrooms will struggle. In this case, darkness isn’t good.
I then spent months designing and testing the mushroom dice, I can’t even count how many I’ve printed out to make sure they are completely fair. Luckily they have been amazingly fun to test, I have been able to get great spins on each dice.
So if you want to bring in a deeper world for your players whether it be a mushroom forest, or plain trees (yes, this tree looks a little like a mushroom… I’m the DM that’s why), or if you are looking for that perfect gift for your DM that gives them power over all the other DMs, or maybe to give your Gnome druid (or just any character, because let’s face it – these dice are worth it!) their own special dice set then this is the product for you!
The dice are spinners, with numbers on the underside and designed to only produce one clear and random selection.
A full set of mushroom dice costs only £21. There are Kickstarter projects that charge that for one dice. As a result, a lot of people need to back at this level.
Economies of scale kick in early, and two sets of spinning mushrooms cost £37. The discounts go up to £63, which unlocks four full sets in any of the colours that have been unlocked.
Fulfilment is scheduled for November 2022.
