Geek Native gave a glowing review to Shotguns & Sorcery, the Cypher System and Robert J Schwalb’s design work on Matt Forbeck’s fantasy noir setting. Now the game is coming to D&D’s 5e.
The undead nearly destroyed the world, but people struck a deal with a dragon to keep them safe in the one last city. The dragon emperor rules over a city with a vibe that’s a cross between a 60s style detective film and a fantasy novel. The campaign funded, smashing through the $10,000 goal and is live for two more weeks.
Shotguns & Sorcery is a New York Times bestselling series by Matt Forbeck. Matt is also an RPG designer, so he knows the shape of things.
Right now, there’s also a Shotguns & Sorcery deal at the Bundle of Holding to get the full Cypher System version at a discount.
The 5e version of Shotguns & Sorcery is not, according to the Kickstarter, going to stores. It’s Kickstarter and then print-on-demand from DriveThruRPG later unless specific retailers back the Kickstarter and shift the books themselves. Or unless a considerable offer is made.
Atlas Games are handling fulfilment on the Kickstarter.
The new book will have full-colour art, a map of Dragon City, new fiction, a revamped race system with mermen and beastmen added and a new character class.
Shotguns & Sorcery 5e adds 14 new character backgrounds, explores the cults of the city, has guidelines for religion and converts every bit of equipment.
As per the noir theme, there’s gun rules, campaign ideas, and a 5e version of the supplement Miners & Mobsters.
Shotguns & Sorcery is a mix of high fantasy and hardboiled noir. It’s filled with wizards and freelancers who skulk through dungeons and creep through glowglobe-lit streets. They hang out in speakeasies after raiding zombie-infested tombs. They carry pistols as well as wands, and they’re ready to use them both.
A pledge of $30 unlocks the PDF version of the 5e rules and the Omnibus eBook of fiction.
It takes a pledge of $60 plus shipping to get the hardcover edition of the 5e RPG added to the thank you rewards.
A deluxe edition of the hardback is available for backers at the $100 mark. That retailer option costs $200.
The fulfilment date is August 2022.
