Thrones for your math rocks? Painted, LED enhanced and sculpted displays that can be used as terrain or even counters were never going to be cheap or easy to produce, yet Dwarven Forge has pushed ahead with the project.
The Kickstarter community, who have seen Dwarven Forge come through for them before, kept the faith and have backed the project. $75,000 was asked for, and with two weeks on the clock, more than $130,000 has been pledged. You can see progress or join in from the pitch page.
If it’s not clear, what the campaign funds are essentially dice displays. Some with additional utility.
I’d argue this is an ambitious project not just because of the costs but because even tabletop gamers don’t know that dice displays are a thing.
That’s because dice displays aren’t yet a thing; Dwarven Forge is making them so.
It’s worth noting, as the length of the documentary/pitch video gets to, these displays also have counters (or some of them) and ability trackers built-in.
A pledge of $1 gets you access to the add-ons for picking and choosing what you want. Over a hundred gamers have taken this offer, which means they’ve not found the $35 for the solo tracker. That’s at least $3,500 Dwarven Forge might have had towards their campaign goal, so it’s kind of them to have made the $1 an option, but risky to have done so.
If you’re confident you want one tracker for one dice, then that’s $35. It comes with the ability tracker, one metal crimson Drakona d6, the counter dial, ability plaque, decals, dice holders and appropriate stretch goals. That’s outstanding value.
However, a single fancy (dwarven, elve or elemental) holder with lighting costs a little more; $59.
If you want an extra fancy one (artificer or eldritch), we’re getting higher still and at $65.
The Kickstarter lets you buy groups with dice holder combinations that’ll let you display a full set of gaming dice. The 7 die array for dwarven, elven or elemental reliquaries costs $219; for artificer and eldritch, that rises to $249.
If you want them all, $520.
Nearly half of the $1,190 tiers for the complete set are sold.
Fulfilment is slated for September 2022. Shipping, fees and taxes need to be added.
