The Verge picked up a story today that dates back to the end of last year. It’s good enough to go further, and so here we are.
Maker Matt3o developed a set of Tolkien keycaps. In other words, you can transform your keyboard into something suitable for Middle-earth. Ish.
It feels like good timing for the release of The One Ring 2e.
There’s an elvish set and a dwarvish one, but no Black Speech as Matt3o wants things to be accurate, as Tolkien would, as we don’t have enough to recreate that tongue.
Another thing I wanted to work on is The One Ring inscription. If you google it you’ll find the same image we all know. I always found it… wrong… I think it’s something that was done by someone one time and since it’s good enough nobody bothered doing it “right”.
You can download Matt3o’s SVGs for free.
You can also buy the completed set from the drop.com.
You can pick up the Elvish keycap set and the Dwarvish for 25% off, and perhaps that’s why The Verge noticed the story.
Drop.com says of the elves;
Immortal, wisest, and fairest of all beings in Middle-earth, the Elves are a race unlike any other in Tolkien’s work. On the officially licensed Drop + The Lord of the Rings MT3 Elvish Keycap Set, we’re bringing their elegance and mesmerizing script to your keyboard. Instantly recognizable from writings on legendary items such as the One Ring, the script of Tengwar was created by the ancient Elf Fëanor and eventually replaced the runelike Cirth to become the text of choice for Elvish languages such as Sindarin: the language featured on this set.
And of the dwarves;
Fearless warriors and fabled builders, the Dwarves are among the most ancient and esteemed races in all of Middle-earth. On the officially licensed Drop + The Lord of the Rings MT3 Dwarvish Keycap Set, we’re bringing their look and language to your keyboard. Created by the god Aulë—a craftsman in his own right—the Dwarves spoke Khuzdul, a secret language which they transcribed into the Elvish script Cirth. When the Elves went on to adopt other forms of writing, Cirth became known as the written word of the Dwarves—and the official text of this keycap set.
